Camping

Adventure Starts Outside

From first-time Cub Scout campouts to full weekends at camp, outdoor experiences are where Scouts build confidence, learn new skills, make memories, and discover what it means to be prepared.

Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, set up the first summer camp for Youth in 1907 at Brownsea Island, England, to test his theories about Scouting for Youth. Since that time, the Outdoor Program has been an important part of Scouting.

Behind every great campout is a little planning — and the right resources make all the difference. Use this page as your hub for camping rules, safety guidelines, required forms, policies, and helpful planning tools so your unit can focus less on paperwork and more on the adventure.

Leadership in Camps

Scouting America requires at least two registered adult leaders for all trips and outings. The designated camp leader must be at least 21 years old, and assistant camp leaders must be at least 18 years old.

Consistent with the policy of Scouting America, separate housing must be provided for all female leadership. While facilities in camp remain the same, scheduling is designed to assure the privacy of both male and female leadership. Prudent judgment must be exercised to assure that proper role models are provided for our young people.
