Why Scouting?
Scouting gives youth the opportunity to discover new adventures, build lifelong friendships, and develop the confidence to succeed in life. Through camping, hiking, community service, leadership opportunities, and hands-on activities, Scouts learn important values such as responsibility, teamwork, and respect while having fun along the way. Scouting provides a safe and supportive environment where boys and girls can challenge themselves, try new things, and grow into strong leaders for tomorrow.
Families choose Scouting because it brings people together and creates lasting memories. Whether it’s around a campfire, serving the community, or learning a new skill, Scouting helps strengthen character and build connections that last a lifetime. The program encourages youth to do their best, serve others, and become active members of their communities — all while enjoying experiences they will never forget.

Unit renewal and member renewal are no longer be one and the same. Membership is now a set 12 month term from the time of registering regardless of when the unit renews. Youth and adult leader membership are separated from the unit renewal.
For over 40 years, Pecatonica River Popcorn has been partnering with Councils across the country to “fund the fun” through popcorn. Over 70% goes back to help provide meaningful and rewarding experiences.
Scouting America’s mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
How Do We Keep Your Scout Safe?
Scouting America, the Northwest Texas Council, and the entire Executive Board, Staff, and Volunteers consider Youth Protection as the most important component of the Scouting Program. We make every effort to keep our Scouts safe using the tools below. We hope to take a moment to educate yourself on Safeguarding Youth Training.
- Require all adult leaders to complete “Safeguarding Youth Training” at registration
- All training is done online with exams
- All adults receive mandatory updated Safeguarding Youth Training every two years
- The training syllabus is developed by certified professionals located at the National Office and experts in child protection across the country
- We require two-deep leadership at all times (No one-on-one contact with a child)
